Travel

At home, drinking your carbs is easy. You control your purchases at the liquor and grocery stores. When you eat at home there is no excuse for not eating healthy foods and drinking mixer-free drinks. On the road, however, all diets become more difficult. Travel often means being faced with a series of poor choices.

  • Fact: In some cities, even if you order a house salad, it comes breaded and deep-fried.

Strange bars in unfamiliar towns tempt you with impossibly cheap drink specials in primary colors and served in tall, seductive glassware. These are mixed drinks specially designed to appeal to the same parts of the brain that attract magpies to bright, shiny objects. Sometimes those evil bastards even let you keep the glass as a souvenir, bringing together the deadly combination of eye-catching dyes, our addiction to sugar and our general fondness for anything free.

On the road, temptations are everywhere. This is entirely by design. First, they know you’re on the road, so you are already weakened. Second, wherever you are in the world you can be assured that the local Chamber of Commerce has conspired with the City Council and local businesses to find ways to fill you belly and empty your wallet. They have full-time employees whose jobs it is to be the tiny devil standing on your shoulder whispering bad ideas. If their seduction fails, they simply do more market research until they find some newer, more compelling combination. Somewhere in the world, we assure you, there is a team of food scientists trying to figure out how to serve a piña colada in a glass made out of a funnel cake.

  • Fact: If you don’t come home from vacation five to 10 pounds heavier than when you left, your destination will consider your visit a failure.

In order to prove that Drink Your Carbs is the perfect solution for a weight-gain free, guilt-free vacation, we embarked on three different Drink Your Carb trips to three of the most tempting locations in the world. We took the Drink Your Carbs diet to Las Vegas for a three-day weekend. We visited Paris, France for a five-day eat-a-thon. And we travelled to South Beach, Florida, both to prove that Drink Your Carbs has no problem going tropical and because we thought it was funny to bring Drink Your Carbs to South Beach.
